MY PRIORITIES
I never thought I would run for a political office, but yet, here I am. Over the last several years, I have grown concerned about the direction that our country, and especially our state, has taken. I am a firm believer in democracy; unfortunately, the current and prevailing political mood in our state seems to be undermining democracy. As you know, Idaho is a conservative state, and the GOP-controlled legislature and governor’s office have a record of passing some rather disturbing laws. Latah County is my home, and I care very much about the future of this place. Therefore, I decided that I had a responsibility to do something about the current direction of things—so I am throwing my hat in the ring for Latah County Commissioner.
My years of farming and ranching as a young man; my undergraduate and graduate education focused on agriculture, ecology, and land restoration; and my service as president of the Moscow Food Co-op Board have made me exceptionally well-qualified for the position of County Commissioner. I understand our region’s economy and ecology, and I have the necessary leadership and governance experience.
As your commissioner, I will work to ensure that our county’s families, communities, and lands are respected and cared for. For example, I will promote
the creation of much-needed infrastructure such as broadband and clean and adequate water.
the protection and creation of affordable housing.
access to local healthcare that is free of government intrusion.
summer meals for our county’s low-income kids.
the freedom of librarians to do their jobs independent of outside interference.
wise land stewardship and thoughtful adaptation to, and mitigation of, the effects of climate change.
As your commissioner, I will also work to ensure that the county business and responsibilities are addressed in a way that is smooth, transparent, and equitable. And I will work to promote economic development that benefits all members of our county.
I firmly believe that a successful county government depends on a healthy democracy—and a healthy democracy gives everyone a voice and guarantees that their voice is heard. If elected, I will work hard for you and I will listen closely and respectfully to your concerns.
